Not what you want to hear.

So I'm at work, busy as crap, and I get a phone call from my brother. My brothers and I talk pretty regularly but not usually during the day when we are all at work. This is how the conversation went.. Me-"What" (Side note, my brothers and I are all incredibly sarcastic towards each other)
Brother-"Did you hear about mom?"
Me- "No why?"
Brother-"Her and Dad are at the doctors office. Mom has cancer"

Well crap. This is not the conversation I ever wanted to have about any of my family members. I was so busy at work this day that I didn't have time to stop and think about this. I told brother that I needed him to take care of this because I didn't have a second to stop.

So its colon cancer. My mom will turn 50 this year and decided to get a colonoscopy now, because who isn't excited for that!, instead of waiting until she was actually 50. The doctor found a lump and removed it but it came back positive for cancer. They scheduled surgery for a week later to remove all the area around the growth to look for/prevent spread of the cancer. At the point we knew it could go one of three ways: First option (our favorite option)- they would have gotten it all and this was just a bump in the road. Second option- Her CT comes back showing growths in other places of her body or the Third option-They test the lymph nodes in the surrounding tissue that they removed and find cancer cells.

They did the CT and it came back clean (Thank goodness) the morning of her surgery. Her surgery was about three hours but felt like three years. I do not like when I am not in control of everything, especially when it comes to my family. They removed 12 inches of colon and we had to wait five days for the results to come back. It was a very long five days watching my mom recover in her hospital bed and pretend to be calm while we wait.

We finally got the pathology report back. CANCER FREE!!! I cannot tell you how relieved I was to hear that.

As of today she is allowed to have clear liquids and the plan is to have her released Saturday morning.
